STOP DROP and MEDITATE

Research shows that a few minutes of mindfulness or meditation can positively impact mental and physical health.

It’s shown to:
Reduce stress
Improve mood
Improve sleep
Increase focus
Improve relationships

Yes please to all of the above!

It’s not realistic for me in the phase of life to meditate consistently for 30 mins plus every day (which would be amazing), so I try to fit moments of meditation and mindfulness in wherever I can. I figure fitting it around what is realistic for me is so much better than not doing it at all.

Usually I wake before our little boy, I use this time to have an uninterrupted shower (meditation itself when you have a small child), make a cup of tea, or coffee depending on how the night before went, and sit in silence to check in with how I am feeling - the calm before the storm! I find starting the day with a bit of calm definitely has a positive ripple effect on my day.

Some other ways I incorporate little snippets of meditation and mindfulness into my life are:

πŸ–€ Big deep belly breaths while waiting at the lights
πŸ–€ Going to yoga 5 minutes early or staying 5 minutes after class
πŸ–€ A cup of herbal tea in bed in the morning or night
πŸ–€ A mindful shower - I visualise the water washing any worries or unhelpful thoughts away
πŸ–€ A walk in nature - barefoot on the beach is the best, or in a park when I’m with my little guy and have a pram
πŸ–€ When I had a desk job I used an app that would remind me every hour to do 1 minute of deep breathing, perfect for checking in with my thoughts - this also really helped with my productivity
